The marquee in front of the former Hotel Kingsborough, which has hung there for many years, is being removed.

All that remains are the girders and they are also scheduled to come down in the next few days.

The former hotel was purchased in the spring of 1971 by Jack Davis, who owns and operates the Aramed Corporation, 121 Harrison Street.

Acting Building Inspector Louis Savarese said this morning that the city ordered Davis to replace the glass on the marquee, which has been broken and strewn on the sidewalk below.

Savarese said that Davis told him that by replacing the glass, it would probably be broken again and it would be less expensive to tear down the landmark.

Davis could not be reached for comment this morning on the demolition of the marquee. When the hotel was purchased, Davis wanted to convert it into an apartment building containing about 200 units.

Since that time no visible work has been done and no attempt has been made to construct apartments other than the application for a special permit for the conversion. The Zoning Board of Appeals approved the permit in February 1972.

The hotel has been vacant for several years, and at one point, was under consideration by the Gloversville Housing Authority for conversion to an apartment house for the elderly.
