CANAJOHARIE -- A car, gasoline pump and gas station were damaged by fire Thursday morning in a freak accident caused when Mrs. Peggy Schrell of Fort Plain was driving east on Route 5 at Yosts. She was accompanied by her daughter, Natalie, 5; her son, Scott, 15 months; and her sister, Miss Joann Wall of Palatine Bridge.

A farm tractor plowing the snow across the highway was in the middle of the road.

Mrs. Schrell said she tried to avoid hitting the tractor, but her car hit the blade of the plow. This it was reported, threw her vehicle over into a pump of the Rotary gas station on the north side of Route 5.

The pump burst into flames and caused damage to the front end of the station and burning the car completely.

The occupants of the car sustained several bruises. Mrs. Schrell lost her groceries, some Christmas presents, and her billfold containing a considerable sum of money.

The Canajoharie volunteer fire department responded along with the Fonda fire department.
