Thanksgiving, renewal and rededication were the three points stressed in the sermon of the Rev. William J. Flanigan, pastor, at the concelebrated centenary Mass at noon yesterday at St. Mary's Church.
The Mass, climax of the church's 100th anniversary celebration this year, was concelebrated by the Most Rev. Edwin B. Broderick, bishop of the Albany Catholic Diocese, assisted by the Rev. Flanigan, the Rev. Leo Potvin, assistant pastor, and by other priests.
"We are grateful for the pioneers who did well in laying the foundation in the faith and to all others who helped to build and establish the parish," the Rev. Flanigan said.
He spoke on "renewing the spirits of the parish and our own faith and that we, through our faith and our activities would leave a strong parish for the future."
The concelebrants were the Rev. William J. Becker, pastor of St. Patrick's Church, Johnstown, who was assistant pastor of St. Mary's Church in 1962; the Rev. Charles V. Dammann, pastor from 1959 to 1961; the Rev. Thomas K. Flanigan of Troy, brother of the Rev. Flanigan and others.
The Mass was preceded by a procession led by the Knights of Columbus and altar boys as the choir sang "Praise the Lord."
Bishop Broderick, after his opening prayer, congratulated and praised the congregation .
and offered his blessing to the parish and the community.
